Dr Cobus Bothma
Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Bothma entered private practice in 1994.  He qualified as a specialist in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pretoria in 1991.  He worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in public service for three years prior to commencing private practice.

He worked abroad for six years in general orthopaedic surgery, where he gained invaluable international exposure and training. He practiced on the KZN North Coast for four years before returning to Gauteng in early 2005 to start the Olivedale practice.

He has a special interest in shoulder and elbow surgery (arthroscopy and arthroplasty) as well as adult foot & ankle surgery with the emphasis on forefoot reconstruction.

We are dedicated to an individualised and quality service based on accurate diagnostics, interactive decision-making and precise intervention.

About Our Practice

Our practice at the Netcare Olivedale Hospital was established in 2005.  We are centrally located in the northen suburbs of Johannesburg with access from the N1 and Witkoppen Rd via Malibongwe Dr.

In general, our approach is to find a non-surgical treatment modality that would be appropriate and effective but we do not hesitate to recommend surgery, if and when required. Our aim is to restore maximal and durable functionality to your affected limb in the shortest possible time.

Most elective (non-emergency) cases in our practice requiring surgical intervention, are managed by minimally invasive techniques. Athroscopic surgery (key-hole access) now offer reliable and reproducible outcomes for many shoulder, elbow and ankle problems.

Some surgical conditions are not suitable for arthroscopic treatment. Reconstructive and trauma procedures usually require a formal approach. Joint replacement operations, and surgery to correct foot deformities fall into this category.

We work closely with support services such as, radiologists, ultra-sonographists, neuro-physiologists, physiotherapists, biokineticists, orthotists and our specialist colleagues from other disciplines to ensure a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic environment.

The hospital is centrally located in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg and surrounded by Fourways, Douglasdale, Bryanston, Randburg, North Riding, Boskruin and Randpark.

Access is a mere 2km north via Pres. Fouche Drive from the Malibongwe Drive off-ramp on the N1. The hospital is also easily accessible from the West and North via Witkoppen / Northumberland Rd and Malibongwe Drive.
